I’m going to show you the one thing that you need to do right now if you want to be taken seriously by Google and the other search engines. Plus, I explain why this has a direct impact on how many leads you can generate from your website.

If you’ve been following my blog, then you might be a bit surprised to hear me talk about SEO at all, or Search Engine Optimisation.

This is the science of trying to get your website as high up in the rankings as possible.

In the last blog in which I talked about SEO, I essentially rallied against it because I don’t think it’s a really good way of you selling and growing your business.

Is Your Site Mobile Responsive?

However, there are some good sides to SEO and one of the good sides is the on-site SEO that you do to improve how well your site works for its users or the people that are coming to visit.

So, one thing you can do is to make sure that your site is mobile responsive, and this is the one thing that Google has said recently, it’s going to start counting in its search algorithm.

The algorithm is simply something that looks at your site and makes sure that it is a perfect fit for the users who are looking for that thing that you provide.

So, in this case, you want to make sure that your site responds really well to mobile platforms. For example, if someone looks at your site on an iPad, do they have to do that thing where you scroll in and out and pinch on the screen to try and actually navigate round?

If they do, then your site is not mobile responsive and, as a result, won’t be able to rank as highly in the search results.

The same is true on a cell phone, or a mobile phone if you’re in the UK, you don’t need to do all that pinching stuff, you should just see your site nice and clearly in one single column, people should be able to scroll up and down it and choose things nice and simply.

But it’s not just important for the search engine rankings. You can also generate more leads from your site if your site responds well on cell phones or mobile phones because most people right now are browsing using their mobile phones, at some point. They’re browsing using iPads and lots of other types of mobile devices and I daresay there will be even more mobile devices that we’ve not even thought of yet that will start to be introduced.

That being the case you want to make sure your site is well up there in usability because if it’s not then you’re going to find people are just going to drop off your website more and more.

How Will A Mobile Responsive Site Generate More Leads?

Without a mobile responsive site, your bounce rate, which is the rate at which people come to your site and then leave, will go up because more and more people will get there, not be able to navigate and then leave.

This is important for generating leads, because you have to get people to stay on your site long enough to actually become a potential lead for your business. If you don’t…  then they just won’t. They’ll go somewhere else where they get a better experience and this is really all about that word ‘experience.’

So, make sure your site is mobile responsive, if you do, you can then start to drive traffic to your site from mobile platforms like, for example, Facebook. Facebook has a fantastic ad platform which you can use to target people who are using their mobile or cell phones. Or also people who are using iPads and all those other types of devices too.

It’s really important that you test trying to reach your market on mobile devices, to see whether you can get more leads on mobile devices than on desktop. Believe it or not, we’ve actually found that a couple of types of businesses, in particular the fitness industry, has a tendency for people to actually want to sign up more via their mobile phones or cell phones than then do via a bigger desktop computer; probably because those people are signing up while they’re out on the move, maybe even going to the gym.

This really is something you absolutely need to test, because who knows how many leads you could be missing out on! But you can’t test it if your site isn’t mobile responsive. So, get on with it right now.

You have until the 24th of April, 2015 to actually make this happen before Google sets up the new algorithm. If you’re reading this after that date, then you really, really need to get on with it right now.
